How to choose the right motor gear ratio:

  • 5:1 gear ratio - Faster slider moves
    • Top Speed: ~3.5 inches per second
    • Max Capacity: 10-15 lbs
    • Recommended for slider video movements on a semi-horizontal setup
  • 19:1 gear ratio - Moderate speeds and torque
    • Top Speed: ~1 inch per second
    • Max Capacity: 15-20 lbs
    • Good middle choice for timelapse/moderate video and sometimes faster rotary movement
  • 27:1 gear ratio - Slow speeds and maximum torque
    • Top Speed: ~0.5 inches per second
    • Max Capacity: 20-25 lbs
    • Recommended for precision timelapse rotary movement and slow heavy slider loads / vertical lifts
